Elizabeth 1 had 1900 dresses when she died in 1603! However, none survived. In Bacton village church in Herefordshire the Bacton Altar Cloth hung in a frame on a wall, after being used as an altar cloth for centuries. It is only recently that this cloth has been revealed as dating from around 1600 and has been identified as belonging to Elizabeth. The colors have been beautifully preserved thanks to being in a dark church for so many years.
In the second video the BBC’s Lucy Worsley is dressed as Queen Elizabeth 1 with all the rolls and stays and complicated undergarments under a replica of one of her marvelous dresses.
