The view from Mars

This week has been monumental for the space program with NASA’s Mars Perseverance Rover landing on the “red planet” on February 18th, 2021.  We see the headlines on the news, but if you are intrigued by the backstory you will really enjoy these videos which show the onboard camera view.  The last 7 minutes before touchdown are the most critical.

The first video, made before the landing attempt,  explains what they were hoping would happen –

And this is the official NASA video of the actual land on 18th February –

And this is the view the Rover is looking at –

If you want to check out what is happening at NASA yourself, you may want to head over to the NASA channel and see what is going on in real time.

One of the most amazing parts of this mission is the development and deployment of the tiny Mars helicopter which is super lightweight with large rotors that turn at 2500 RPM, 5 times faster than a helicopter on earth.
