A Passion for Ballet Dancing

In the words of Martha Graham (named “Dancer of the Century” by Time magazine) –

Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion”

Earlier this month the BBC carried this story about a dance company in a deprived area of Lagos, Nigeria.

And this video shows similar work going on in the slums of Kenya.

Please do also look at this “Swans for Relief” video within which 32 principal ballerinas from across the world perform to Saint-Saëns’ ‘The Swan’ – the 13th and penultimate movement of his 1886 suite, The Carnival of the Animals.  The charity is raising money for dancers struggling with no prospect of income.

And finally, UK “Wowers” still have another 2 weeks to watch a “catch-up” of the Royal Opera House’s reopening performance that was screened on 10th July here.
